Butterflies and Bumble Bees

I stepped outside to a
golden sunshine blue sky day,
a high spring day all full of itself.
As I reached for the clothesline
I saw that my 8 foot tall
flowering dewdrop shrub just
three feet away from me
was laced full of dainty clusters
of neon lavender blooms.
Orange monarchs fluttered ’round it
while plump bumble bees
buzzed over the clusters.
The clear blue of the sun-washed sky,
the lacy green of the plant,
the bright orange of the monarchs
and the golden-yellow-black of the bees
made me stop what I was doing
and gaze in humble admiration.
