The Runaway

My big blue inner tube rolled,
no, flew! across the hot white sand,
parallel with the shore,
perfectly balanced,
not teetering once,
as if some invisible hand
were pushing it along.

I chased after it forever,
stopping now and then
to catch my breath,
laughter bending me in two!
What a hilarious sight
we must’ve made–
me and my defiant tube.
