Drowsy Sunset

I looked up from my nap, and,
framed in the living room window,
was a glowing lemon sky.
No. Paler than lemon,
but brighter than ivory.
It was a uniform glow,
not mottled or streaked.
My eyes closed briefly,
then opened again
to a rosier hue
and, as I watched,
the almost-lemon receded
and the rose deepened.
Once more my eyes closed
and when they flickered
open, dusk had fallen
and all was silent gray.
