Wood Song

Midway through
the canoe trip on the
narrow, leaf-lined river
I heard it.
The wind in the tree tops,
sighing through the supple
green of early spring.
I sat still,
wide open,
my mind hushed,
surrendering to
the wild soul-song
that moved
through the woods.
