Frustrated Chorus Girl

Filling the sink with sudsy water,
dirty dishes to the rim and dishrag in hand,
radio playing in the background.
Then I hear it – the BEAT. (Ooh, it’s a good one)
First my head, side to side,
then my left heel, tap, tap, tap,
then my butt, left-right, left-right,
and I’m a Goner!
Throwing down the rag,
I skip to the dining room dance floor.
The throbbing BEAT fills my body and
I’m flying, whirling, swaying, flinging,
kicking the sky–
arms open wide, wide
to power, to life,
to the BEAT.
