Scudding gray clouds
dominate the sky,
frowning down at the
foaming green sea.
Wispy sea pines bow before
the growling wind–
a wind that never stops.
Pelicans skim the surface
with ungainly grace,
or dive straight down
into the heaving water–
coming up with a gulp and a swallow.
Comical sandpipers chase each other
ahead of breaking froth, while
a dolphin surfaces three times,
shining fins arc-ing above the water.
And always, always the gulls, swooping
and crying in the fearless wind.
